Steve Haussler of Coldwell Banker has closed the sale of 303 Markham Place in Pasadena for $4,675,000. The home closed in October 2026.
Built in 1901 and attributed to Herbert L. Smith, one of the region's earliest architects, the Colonial Revival stands on a quiet street in Pasadena's Governor Markham Landmark District. It is a contributing structure to both the Markham Place National Register Historic District and the city landmark district. Mature trees frame the house, and a grand magnolia shades the front garden.
Noted architect James V. Coane led a 2016 renovation and expansion. He reworked the kitchen and family spaces and added an entirely new primary suite, all while honoring the home's original character. A broad wraparound porch leads to the original glass-paneled front door. Inside, an entry laid in Calacatta and Brown Emperador marble opens to light-filled rooms: a living room with a wood-burning fireplace and walls of bookcases, a study, and a formal dining room served by a butler's pantry. The chef's kitchen has two islands and opens to a family room overlooking the gardens.
Upstairs are four bedrooms. The primary suite has a separate retreat, a private balcony, a marble bath and a boutique-style walk-in closet. In all, the house offers about 4,080 square feet with five and a half baths, on a lot of about 16,771 square feet. Out back, landscaped grounds hold a PebbleTec pool with a Baja shelf and spa, a cabana with an outdoor kitchen, and a guest studio above the garage.
